Initially, I was never bothered about Portugal, because that is where most of the Brit’s go for summer. I guess in my narrow mind I didn’t think much of it at first, but boy was I wrong. Portugal is one of the best places I’ve ever visited. Why? Because nowhere else have I ever felt super relaxed, safe and affordable.
Jono and I arrived in December, yes you heard me right. And with it being near Christmas, we were offered super low off-peak prices. We got ourselves a good deal. And because it is Portugal, the weather was still warm enough for tees and shorts during the day, and a jumper in the evening.
We got ourselves used to low season off-peak travel, but there are drawbacks, some of which come to our own advantage. I mean, less visitors, no queues, it’s a chilled and relaxed atmosphere. However, some shops and entertainment are closed for the season, but there is plenty of amenities to keep you entertained.
Scorching sunshine and heaps of bright Orange trees along the roads make a beautiful drive along the road. Rent a car and explore the whole south in the Algarve. We travelled from East to West, to the ends of the Earth in Sagres.
Sagres feels really remote and tranquil. The views of the cliffs are amazing. It feels truly epic.
